Don’t be a dick about it... #
It’s been months since the event occurred, but for some reason it lingers.
You meet someone you think is cool, because they like doing the same stuff you are doing, and they are interested in the same stuff you are interested in. They have managed to be a little more fortunate than you, and are further along on their journey than you. Maybe they paid attention in class when you were distracted by some attractive classmate, or it was something they were born into because it was what one of their parents did professionally. It really doesn’t matter, because you get to know them, and find out they lack experience in areas your quite familiar with. This doesn’t mean they are less than you, nor are you less than them. Both of you are different individuals on different paths, who have had different experiences, and different opportunities. You can’t really compare the two, and you don’t want to, because it nice meeting someone who shares your interests.
Then, in order to further your own understanding about a topic in one of your mutual interests, you inquire about their thoughts on the matter. Suddenly, you discover this fellow brainiac is a total wanker, who completely snubbs you, and all of a sudden won’t have anything to do with you. It doesn’t really matter, because who wants an arrogant prick as a friend? The answer is no one. Unfortunately, this is not what is bothering you. What bothers you is the utter hypocrisy of their position. In order for them to have gotten any form of knowledge, someone had to be a better person than them, and share that knowledge with them.
